» Feature Writer Renee Blixt - Suggestions for Subscriptions

In response to Suggestions for Subscriptions posted by jennybeans:
Hi there,
I'm so happy when I hear about someone getting started in crochet...*tearing up* *:o)* --it's so very versatile, and has a ton of stitch patterns, so you won't get bored.
Magazine types vary widely in this field, and each has its "flavor." I like Crochet Today Magazine--it's easy to follow, and has lots of cute ideas.
The CGOA offers a free subscription to "Crochet!" to all members, and the membership doesn't cost much more than a subscription; so you get two things for the price of one!
Here's something I did: I went to a craft store and took a "try me subscription card" out of each magazine there. I got a ton of free issues, and as they came in, I simply wrote "cancel" on the bill if I didn't like it, or I subscribed if I did like it.
Another idea is to do a web search for "crochet magazines"; most magazine websites offer a free trial issue. (This is a great way to start building your library.) For example, Interweave Press, http://interweave.com/magazines/default.... has a ton of options.
By trying the magazines like I described, you'll get a hands-on experience with each one, and will quickly pick up which kinds you do and do not like--and you won't have to spend a dime.
Hope that helps!
