My sincere wish is that everyone’s New Year’s celebration was as wonderful as mine… Am I being sarcastic? Read on…
Last week, I shared my plans for NY’s with everyone. In a nutshell, my husband and daughters agreed to try knitting. Yes, you heard correctly—my husband, too. Before I continue, I want to say something very, very important:
I love my family.
Okay, then. I’m glad that’s clear.
My oldest daughter got into college at the age of 13 (she has a 4.0 average) and my youngest daughter is precocious, as well. (I may have mentioned this once or twice or 50 times.) My husband is a professor and is the smartest, sweetest, and most sincere man I know. They make me so happy and proud.
At most things.
On NYE, I excitedly got prepared for my mini-workshop. I brought out yarns of all types and needles of the greatest quality. I brought out the best beginners’ books I own, and set up the dining room table. It looked better than it does on Thanksgiving Day. We gathered ‘round the table (even the cat joined us), and began.
My almost-4-year-old listened with rapture for an entire 30 seconds before grabbing the needles and showing us her drumming skills—loudly. She also made sure we knew she could sing. We know.
My now 14-year-old tried so hard—to stay awake. The effort failed. It’s amazing how some kids can sleep with their eyes open.
My husband did pick out a nice $15USD/ skein yarn to work with before he dropped it (accidentally, I’m positive) and the cat had the chance to grab it and run. My youngest daughter joined her.
On the bright side, the cat is pleased; the wool yarn shredded nicely into a cat pillow.
