Ravelry Online Knitting CommunityA Place for Knitters and Crocheters to Share Their Craft
Ravelry is an online knitting community for knitters and crocheters where they can share everything they have learned and organize their own crafting life.
Knitters and crocheters love to share what they have learned with other crafters, and also love to go to other crafters for tips and ideas. Ravelry is an online knitting community that helps fiber crafters from all over the world communicate with each other. It is also the perfect place to organize one’s own hobby. Share With Other Knitters and CrochetersUnder Patterns, users can search for a specific pattern or browse by category and craft or by tag. Many patterns are free or have links to where users can find them. If the user likes the pattern, she can put it in her Favorites so she can easily find it later. This search is also useful because if a user is interested in a pattern and wants to know how it works up, she can search for it and see what other crafters have said about it and see pictures of their finished projects. Knitters and crocheters always want to know how well a yarn will work before committing to a project with it. Under Yarns, users can search for a specific yarn or browse by brand, fiber, or other tags. Users can see how a yarn works up, and see what other crafters have said about how well it works. Users can also favorite yarns if they would like to use them on upcoming projects but don’t have them in their stash yet. Ravelry also has links where users can buy yarn online, and users can also trade or buy yarn from each other. Crafters can communicate with each other through direct messages or through the Forums. Forum topics cover everything from specific knitting and crocheting topics such as felting and colorwork, to charity projects, to non-crafting topics such as mystery books. Organize Knitting and Crocheting With “My Notebook”The “My Notebook” section is useful for organizing one’s own hobby. Under Projects, the user can list all of the projects she has done and is working on. She can give the project a name, and list the pattern, needle/hook, and yarn used. Ravelry provides links to other projects that have used the same pattern and yarn. The user can also provide notes for how the project is coming and how it turned out, how well the yarn worked, and if she made any changes to the pattern. She can also upload and share photos of her work. Users can also organize projects that they would like to do. Under Favorites, users can save patterns, yarns, and projects that other people have done. Once the user has decided on specific projects she would like to do, she can order them in her Queue, give the upcoming project a name, choose a pattern and yarn, and can even provide a date it needs to be finished by. All knitters and crocheters have a lot of supplies that come with these hobbies, and Ravelry helps organize them. Under Stash, the user can list all of the yarn she has, including information about colors, how much she owns, where she bought it, and what it was used in. She can also upload photos of her yarn. Under Needles & Hooks, knitters and crocheters can list which and how many tools they have, and there is even an option to print out a small card for reference. Under Library, users can list all the books and magazine they have, and even save patterns that they have downloaded directly from Ravelry.
