Tried and true knit or crochet gifts are perfect to give to Mom for Mother's Day or any other time, whether she knits, crochets, or not.
Sweater/Sweatshirt
No matter where Mom lives, a sweater or sweatshirt will almost always be welcome. They are for cooler weather that surrounds us even in the summer time.
There are some wonderful new patterns out there that turn a regular sweatshirt into a cardigan. Also, consider adding a couple of sweatshirt-material pockets to a sweater that’s been knitted or crocheted.
Victorian Items
Victorian style items are perfect for Mother’s day, if that is her taste. Victorian lace is timelessly feminine and elegant.
A square/rectangular doily is gorgeous on a wooden table or piano, but it can also double as a picnic basket cover. Maybe Mom would like a lacy shawl made out of crochet thread or cobweb thread.
Lace is fantastic for gifts because it has lots of space between the stitches. Therefore, it knits up quickly; it crochets up even faster.
Potholders
It’s not possible to own too many potholders, no matter what anyone may say. Tell Mom how much her cooking is appreciated by making her a set of potholders. What Mom doesn’t want to hear how great her cooking is?
Jewelry
Crochet jewelry is hot right now. Plenty of patterns are available in books and online. A Corsage Pin made with thread is gorgeous and unique. Since the items are small, they make up very quickly.
Sachet
Sew two square pieces of silk together, but before doing so, add sachet filling. Then, cover the sachet in crochet thread lace for a delicate drawer addition.
Tote / Purse
Totes are so very trendy right now. A purse is a well-like and safe gift, as one can never have too many! A small purse is perfect for a cell phone, and it’s quick to knit or crochet up.
Yarner Moms
Moms who are knitters or crocheters will appreciate a number of gifts related to their trade.
Charm Bracelet She will love a charm bracelet that includes knitting or crochet charms. Many yarn specialty shops carry these, or jewelry makers can fashion these themselves.
Labels Help Mom personalize the items she makes by giving her gift labels. Labels can be ordered from most yarn catalogs and from online sites. They greatly increase the value of a hand made item by adding professionalism. She’ll love labels that have her name on them, as well as care instructions.
Pincushion Pincushions come ready made, but they can look fabulous when you give them an extra touch. Cover a store bought cushion with a layer of knitting or crochet. Stick it with pins and Mom will be sure to use it right away.
Organizers As this world gets busier and busier, the need for organization increases. Knitters and crocheters are no exception. Like any other crafter, they need ways to organize their materials. Consider knitting a hook set holder or even a portfolio cover. Use surface embroidery to put Mom’s name on it.
Hook Sets While tools are not generally recommended as gifts for crafters, hook or needle sets are the exception. When of good quality, sets are wonderful gifts because extras are always needed for convenience’s sake or for replacement.
Flowers Instead of the usual bouquet, use craft sticks or pipe cleaners for stems and make a whole bouquet for Mom. Or, make a few and attach them to gifts to make a sweet wrapping accent.
Enjoy Mother’s Day!
