Buying low cost gifts for knitters needn't be a problem! Here are some ideas for gifts that cost under $3!

Cheap Gadgets and Gizmos for Knitters

Knitters love gadgets and happily there are a wide range of low budget knitting gadgets and gizmos that will be much appreciated. Gifts that knitters will welcome include:

Stitch Holders – Starting at under $1, these useful knitting accessories are low in cost. However they are a useful and valuable tool that knitters use to hold stitches during shaping. Stitch holders look like very large safety pins.

Point Protectors – The sharp point of a knitting needle can cause all sorts of damage to the unwary. A pair of point protectors helps to avoid nasty accidents or damage to knitting and craft bags. These are available from around $1 for very basic point protectors through to a few dollars for novelty versions.

Yarn Needle – Every knitter at some time needs a yarn needle to sew up seams. For most knitters this is the bit of knitting that they least enjoy. This is usually compounded by the fact that a yarn needle can never be found! The gift of a couple of yarn needles will be gladly received. These normally cost between $1 and $2.

Knit Tally / Row Counter - These sit on the end of knitting needles and knitters use them to count each time a row is worked. This are typically plastic gadgets that cost just a couple of dollars. There are, however, more sophisticated versions available.

Stitch Markers – Stitch markers are a useful way to keep track of the number of stitches or rows worked. While some knitters get by using a bent paper clip or old earring, proper stitch knitters are designed for the task. Cheap stitch markers are available from about $2. More expensive and handmade stitch markers are also popular.

Needle Gauge – This is useful for checking the size of knitting needles. Most knitting needle gauges measure needles in both US sizes and metric. This makes them a handy way to convert knitting needle sizes. These typically cost between $1 and $3.

Knitting Bobbins – Knitters who enjoy fair isle or multi colored knitting will appreciate knitting bobbins. Small lengths of yarn are wrapped around the bobbins and this saves working with several balls of different colored yarns. Knitting bobbins start at around $2.

Most knitters will welcome one or all of the above. These are useful low cost knitting gadgets which are bound to be appreciated.
