The Knitting Answer Book, Storey Publishing
The Knitting Answer Book and The Crochet Answer Books, published by Storey, are great companion books for fiber artists--at home or on the go.

Take a fresh look at two books Storey Publishing put out a couple of years back – The Knitting Answer Book by Margaret Radcliffe and The Crochet Answer Book by Edie Eckman – to answer fiber artists’ most pressing questions. Authors Eckman and Radcliffe do their very best to cover knitters’ and crocheters’ most common – and even uncommon – questions about their crafts. These books are still relevant today, and will be for many years to come.

Both books are compact in size, and fit nicely into a craft bag or purse. Although they are small, they are packed with information. They confidently state that having the books is like having an expert 24/7 at your fingertips, and they strive to do just that.

The Knitting Answer Book

The Knitting Answer Book by Margaret Radcliffe tackles topics from needle sizes and yarn weights to dropped stitches and curling edges.

Radcliffe covers casting on & binding off, basic knit stitches, knitting tools, yarn, reading patterns, pattern stitches, circular knitting, color, shaping, fitting, finishing, and embellishments. Each topic is discussed in detail and is phrased in question / answer form. This makes it down-to-earth, and breaks knitting down into friendly components. Further resources are cited in this book. For those looking for “more,” the given list is a terrific place to start.

Author Margaret Radcliffe teaches all levels of knitting, and promotes independent creativity in all knitters. She is an established designer and owner of Maggie’s Rags, where her own designs are published.

TKAB runs $14.95 USD, and can be found in bookstores everywhere, as well as Amazon Books. Beginners will read it cover to cover, but even advanced knitters will pick up excellent tips.

The Crochet Answer Book

The Crochet Answer Book by Edie Eckman answers all kinds of hooking dilemmas, from selecting hooks and yarns to venturing into complex patterns. Eckman covers hooks and other tools, yarn facts, foundation row, stitches (both basic and more advanced), tension, gauge, flat geometric shapes, fabrics, patterns, borders, beads, fabric care, and finishing techniques.
